Designer Outlet Swindon launches free Summer of Stories for families

Families are being invited to turn the page on a summer of adventure as Frasers Plus Designer Outlet Swindon launches a free programme of storytelling events inspired by the National Year of Reading 2026.

Running every weekend from 25 July until 30 August, Summer of Stories will transform the popular shopping destination into an interactive world of books, bringing characters and tales to life through live performances, themed activities and dedicated reading spaces.

Designed to encourage children to discover the joy of reading, the free experience offers a different story theme each weekend, giving families plenty of reasons to return throughout the school holidays.

Your Holiday Starts Now

Interactive storytelling sessions will take place every Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm, with performers using music, movement and audience participation to immerse young readers in each story.

Away from the performances, families can explore a specially created story-themed event space where children can meet Billy the Bookworm, browse a community book swap and relax with a book in a comfortable reading corner, which will remain open throughout the summer.

The initiative forms part of the wider National Year of Reading campaign, which aims to inspire people of all ages to read for pleasure and recognise the benefits books can bring to learning, wellbeing and creativity.

Visitors can also combine the experience with a day out enjoying the outlet’s range of designer stores, cafés and restaurants.

Charlotte King, Marketing Manager at Designer Outlet Swindon, said: “We’re excited to bring Summer of Stories to Frasers Plus Designer Outlet Swindon and give families even more reasons to spend quality time together over the school holidays.

“As the National Year of Reading shines a spotlight on the importance of reading for pleasure, we hope this experience inspires children to discover a love of reading while enjoying a fun day out with family and friends.

“With a different story every weekend, there’s always a reason to come back and enjoy something new.”

With free admission, imaginative performances and a welcoming space to curl up with a good book, Summer of Stories promises to add a little extra magic to the school holidays while celebrating the simple pleasure of reading together.
