A Swindon man has been jailed for nearly seven months after lying to police when caught shoplifting in the town centre.Lee Thomas Harris (49), County Road, Swindon pleaded guilty to and was convicted and sentenced for a breach of a suspended sentence order, theft and obstructing police.
On Thursday 30 March 2017 police were called to the Marks & Spencer store in Swindon town centre after a shoplifter had been detained.
Lee Harris gave a false name at the scene but when taken to Gablecross police station, where he was interviewed and fingerprinted, his true identity was discovered and that he was wanted by Milton Keynes Magistrates for a breach of a court order.
On Friday 31 March 2017 Swindon Magistrates sentenced him to a total of 208 days in prison and fined him £100.69 compensation for the victim.
PC Jonathan Kilburn said: “Lee Harris had only been in Swindon for three days saying he had moved here to start a new life.
“We welcome this sentence and I hope Mr Harris will learn not to lie to the police in future and make an effort to work towards his rehabilitation.”
