Four men have been arrested on suspicion of rape following a reported sexual assault on a woman in her 30s in Swindon.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the arrests were made following an incident in the Farriers Close area of the town, with detectives now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.
The four suspects, two aged 21, one aged 20 and another aged 19, were taken into custody for questioning.
An investigation is under way, with a police scene established in the car park of Great Western Surgery in Farriers Close while officers carry out their enquiries.
Police have confirmed that they are not currently looking for any further suspects in connection with the incident.
Detective Inspector Tom Straker acknowledged that the reports would understandably cause concern among those living and working nearby.
He said:
“We recognise the concern that this worrying incident will have had in the local community.
“We were able to rapidly locate and arrest four men, two of whom are aged 21, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, in connection with the investigation.
“We are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to this. You may notice an increased police presence in the area. If you have any concerns, please do approach our officers.”
Detectives are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the Farriers Close area shortly after midnight and may have seen or heard something that could assist their investigation.
Motorists who travelled through the area around that time are also being asked to check any dashcam recordings that might contain useful footage.
