Swindon’s ambitions for business growth and inward investment were discussed during a visit to a local workplace design company by the Leader of Swindon Borough Council.
Councillor Gary Sumner visited Kerr Office Group at its base in Westmead, where he met founder Jonathan Kerr and Chief Executive Officer Alex Kerr.
Kerr Office Group specialises in workplace design and fit-outs, delivering projects for businesses across the UK. The company has been based in Swindon for nine years and employs more than 20 people.
The meeting focused on Swindon’s economic development plans, priority growth sectors and the support available to local businesses, as well as the direction set out in the Council’s Economic Growth Plan.
There was also discussion about the role local companies and supply chains can play when new investment comes into the town.
Kerr Office Group is currently involved in several major workplace projects linked to business expansion in Swindon. These include work for defence technology company Stark Defence and the forthcoming expansion of Callaway Golf’s operations in South Marston.
Councillor Sumner said the visit offered an opportunity to see how a Swindon business was helping other organisations establish and expand locally.
“It was a pleasure to visit Kerr Office Group and see first-hand how a successful Swindon business is helping other organisations grow and invest in our borough,” he said.
He added that the Council wanted to work with ambitious local companies to make sure new investment resulted in long-term economic benefits, including high-quality employment and a stronger local economy.
“Swindon is a fantastic place to do business,” said Councillor Sumner. “By working closely with ambitious local companies such as Kerr Office Group, we can help ensure that new investment delivers lasting economic benefits, creates high-quality jobs and strengthens our local economy for the future.”
The Council says it continues to work with businesses of all sizes to attract investment, encourage high-value employment and create the conditions for sustainable economic growth across Swindon.
Alex Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of Kerr Office Group, said Swindon had provided the company with the connectivity, skilled workforce and commercial opportunities needed to continue expanding.
He said the company could see “first-hand” the confidence organisations have in Swindon as a place to establish and grow their operations.
The visit comes as the Council continues to promote Swindon as a place for businesses to invest, while local companies look to benefit from new development and expansion across the Borough.
