A property in Swindon’s Groundwell Road has been served with a three-month closure order following repeated reports of antisocial behaviour, disorder and suspected cuckooing.
The order was granted by Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 July, after Wiltshire Police applied for action in response to ongoing concerns from local residents.
Under the terms of the closure order, only the tenant, the landlord, authorised contractors and emergency services are permitted to enter the property for the next three months. Anyone found breaching the order could face further legal action.
Police said the decision followed numerous reports of criminal damage, excessive noise, loud music and disorderly behaviour both inside and around the address, which had caused concern among people living nearby.
PC Brown, of the Swindon Central South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have been receiving regular reports of antisocial behaviour, including noise complaints and disorderly behaviour, coming from this address which is of great concern to us, and the residents living nearby.
“As a result, we have applied for and been granted this closure order, which will help reduce antisocial behaviour and disorder from continuing, safeguard vulnerable individuals and provide respite to the local community.
“We will continue to carry out patrols in the area and ensure that anyone found in breach of the order will be dealt with robustly.”
Closure orders are one of a number of powers available to police and local authorities to tackle properties linked to persistent antisocial behaviour, helping to protect vulnerable residents and improve the quality of life for neighbouring communities while investigations continue.
