Closure notice at Faringdon Road address extended to tackle drug activity

Officers in Swindon have successfully sought an extension to a partial closure notice at an address in Faringdon Road in a bid to tackle drug related activity.

The closure notice was initially put in place due to ongoing concerns that the resident was being cuckooed by a county lines drugs gang. It meant that anyone other than the resident named on the notice was prohibited from entering the property, and by doing so, they could be committing an offence and may be arrested.

It has now been extended for three months by Swindon Magistrates.

It will continue to further protect the occupant, as well as local residents, from the anti-social behaviour and violence often associated with drug activity.

The extension was sought after a woman breached the notice and was arrested at the address yesterday.

Jade Curtis, 35, of no fixed abode, was arrested and charged with remaining on/entering a premises in contravention of a closure notice, and appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court today. The case will now go to Swindon Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

PC Paul Bezzant said: “We are continuing to work with our partners at Swindon Borough Council for a long term solution to safeguard the occupant, but in the interim, this extension allows us to also protect the wider community from the associated anti-social behaviour. To date, this order has been extremely effective, with yesterday’s breach being the only known breach of the order.
