Charity Challenges Swindon to Firewalk in Support of Domestic Abuse Survivors

Swindon-based charity Society Without Abuse (SWA) is inviting the public to take part in a unique fundraising challenge — walking barefoot over hot coals — to support survivors of domestic abuse.

The Firewalk will take place at Swindon Cricket Ground on Friday 10 October from 6pm, sponsored by Gel Studios. Participants will walk 15 metres across burning embers at 1,500 degrees, symbolising the fear, pain and courage faced daily by abuse survivors.

On average, victims of domestic abuse experience 35 incidents before seeking help. The Firewalk aims to highlight this reality while raising vital funds to support SWA’s services, including refuge spaces, recovery programmes, and education to break the cycle of abuse.

Natasha Moyles, Operations Manager at SWA, explained:

“Braving a Firewalk gives people a glimpse of the fear, uncertainty and courage survivors experience. The sense of empowerment and relief afterwards reflects the moment survivors take back control of their lives.”

Entry costs £30 per person, with a pledge to raise £100 in sponsorship. Food and drink will also be available on the night, making it an inspiring community event for participants and supporters alike.
