Boris Johnson has addressed MP’s in parliament this afternoon announcing that some social distancing measures could change from Monday ‘if we possibly can’.
However, the Prime Minister also warned that it would be an “economic disaster” if relaxing the rules sparked a spike in cases.
Confirming he will address the nation on Sunday to outline the changes he said “The reason for that is very simple. We have to be sure that the data is going to support our ability to do this,” he went on to explain. “We will want, if we possibly can, to get going with some of these measures on Monday.”
Replying to a question from Ian Blackford of the Scottish National Party the Prime Minister went on to say “It’d be an economic disaster for this country if we were to pursue a relaxation of these measures now in such a way as to trigger a second spike.”
