Almost 11 million first doses of Covid vaccination administered

Department of Health statistics show 480,560 first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered on Thursday, alongside 4,000 second doses.

This figure means almost 11 million Britons have now had their first vaccination throughout the UK.

The latest number is also an increase on the previous 24 hours which saw a total of 471,011 first doses administered.

For the government to hit the target of vaccinating the top four priority groups by February 15th the daily vaccination numbers for the first dose needs to stay above 400,000.

Last Saturday, January 30th saw the highest number of vaccinations recorded, when as many as 609,010 people throughout the UK were vaccinated in 24 hours however this number dropped to around 320,000 on the Sunday.

What are the Covid-19 vaccine priority groups?
The order of priority for each group in the population has been calculated using data on the number of individuals who would need to be vaccinated to prevent one death.

  1. Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. All those 80 years of age and over, and frontline health and social care workers
  3. All those aged 75 and over
  4. All those 70 years of age and over, and clinically extremely vulnerable people
  5. All those 65 years of age and over
  6. All individuals between 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality – the ‘vulnerable’ group
  7. All those 60 years of age and over
  8. All those 55 years of age and over
  9. All those 50 years of age and over
