On the 17th and 18th July, Great Western Railway’s HST power car No. 43002 Sir Kenneth Grange will visiting STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway.
Following the withdrawal of the Class 43 HST’s from service on Great Western high speed routes, 43002 is to be preserved as part of the National Collection. It is stopping at Swindon before eventually heading to the National Railway Museum in York.
The power car is named after Sir Kenneth Grange who was instrumental in designing the look of the Inter-City 125 HST’s. He was responsible for the streamlined shape of the nosecone as well as the famous yellow and blue livery.
In late 1975 No. 43002 was the first Class 43 power car to roll off the production line and entered into service hauling high speed trains the following year.
Visitors can view No.43002 outside of STEAM on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July, 10am – 5pm.
