Swindon’s 1st Story Camp hailed a ‘huge success’, as 14 new junior authors launched in Waterstones.

Swindon’s rich history of creatives and storytellers just had a welcome boost, as participants of the inaugural Summer Story Camp unveiled their debut books in the town’s Waterstones this weekend.
The unique summer club, founded by award-winning children’s author Kate Claxton, and artist and Let’s Create Art Club owner Rachel Bray, saw 14 children from across the town come together for an 8-day experience like no other. The budding storytellers learned to write, illustrate and brand their own books which were expertly printed by Minuteman Press in Old Town, and later launched in front of eager parents and siblings in the UK’s leading bookstore.
Speaking of the experience, founder Kate said “I am beyond proud of what these children have achieved in this short space of time.
“It’s still such a buzz when I walk in and see my own books in the store, so the feeling for a 7-year-old must have been pure magic. It’s been an honour to pass on what I’ve learned and the children have been so grateful and enthusiastic. An absolute joy!”
Rachel Bray agreed, “It has been an absolute pleasure looking after and getting to know our author/illustrators. We are so proud of each and every one of them – they have worked so hard and accomplished so much, they should be incredibly proud of themselves!”
After documenting the adventures of the Story Camp, which included a variety of arts and crafts, games, outdoor play, the use of a sensory garden, and a mini disco, the pair have received a huge call for information on the next Story Camp.
