Cirencester’s Barn theatre has announced that shows have been cancelled in response to the coronavirus epidemic.
Ian Carling, founder and benefactor of the venue in the town centre, confirmed that instead of celebrating the theatre’s second anniversary on Tuesday 17th March they were instead announcing the temporary closure of the theatre due to government guidelines.
Customers with tickets for future performances at the Barn will be contacted in due course by the box office staff to discuss options.
In the meantime an appeal to save the Barn has been launched with an appeal on the Theatre’s website.
‘With great sadness we have taken the difficult decision today to temporarily close the theatre because of government guidelines, and what the Prime Minister advised yesterday.
We are now in a position where we need your help. As an unsubsidised charity, we rely solely on donations and ticket revenue which has now come to a halt. This loss of revenue is a hammer blow to us.
It is estimated that we will lose upwards of £250,000 over the coming months which could ultimately close the theatre on a permanent basis.
Our future is now dependent on our supporters and as such we are launching a donations campaign, working together with our community to SAVE OUR BARN.’
If you would like to make a donation towards keeping the Barn running contact the Barn Theatre box office on 01285 648255 or you can donate online at www.barntheare.org.uk/SOB
