Richie Anderson and Britain’s Got Talent Star Jamie Leahey Join Wyvern Theatre Panto Cast

Two familiar faces from television and radio will be heading to Swindon this Christmas as the Wyvern Theatre has announced the latest stars set to join its annual pantomime.

BBC Radio 2 presenter and television personality Richie Anderson and Jamie Leahey have been confirmed for this year’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk, joining the already announced Swindon panto favourite David Ashley.

The festive family show, which runs at the Wyvern Theatre this December, promises a giant-sized adventure packed with comedy, music, audience participation and plenty of traditional pantomime magic.

Richie Anderson will take on the role of the Squire, bringing with him a growing reputation as both a broadcaster and entertainer. Well known to listeners of BBC Radio 2, Anderson spent six years on the station’s Breakfast Show alongside Zoe Ball before launching his own Sunday evening programme. He is also a familiar face on television, appearing on shows including Escape to the Country, Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity MasterChef and Celebrity Gogglebox.

Speaking about his return to pantomime following his debut last year, Anderson said he has been a lifelong fan of the festive theatre tradition.

He recalled attending pantomimes every year while growing up in Birmingham and said one of the highlights of performing is seeing audiences come together for an evening of fun and escapism.

Anderson also revealed he has a previous connection to Swindon, having spent time in the town while training for his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

Joining him on stage will be Jamie Leahey and his puppet sidekick Chuck. Leahey shot to national prominence after finishing runner-up on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022, winning over judges and audiences with his blend of comedy and ventriloquism.

Since then, he has performed internationally and appeared on television programmes including Saturday Mash-Up!. In Swindon, he will play Simon Trott, bringing Chuck along for the adventure.

Leahey said he was looking forward to performing at the Wyvern Theatre for the first time and sharing the stage with David Ashley, whom he described as a true pantomime legend.

The production tells the familiar tale of Jack Trott and his family, who find themselves struggling to survive while an evil giant terrorises the village. When Jack swaps the family cow, Daisy, for a handful of magical beans, he embarks on a journey above the clouds that promises excitement, laughter and larger-than-life characters.

The show is once again being produced by Imagine Theatre, whose annual productions at the Wyvern have become a staple of the festive season for many local families.

Laura James, Theatre Director at the Wyvern, said the theatre was delighted to welcome both performers to this year’s cast.

She said Anderson and Leahey would bring energy, humour and charisma to the production and, alongside David Ashley, create the perfect mix of laughter, mischief and festive fun.

With tickets already on sale, the announcement is likely to add to anticipation for one of Swindon’s most popular Christmas traditions, with organisers promising dazzling sets, memorable songs and enough pantomime magic to entertain audiences from ages four to 104.
