Swindon’s vibrant art scene is set to dazzle visitors with an intimate and inspiring event at the newly launched Museum & Art Swindon.
On Saturday 7th December, local abstract artist Helen Savin will take centre stage with her evocative body of work, offering visitors a unique glimpse into her creative process and personal journey.
Helen has turned her passion for painting into a powerful tool for personal recovery and growth. After navigating the profound challenges of menopause in 2019, she found solace and renewal in her art. Reflecting on that turbulent period, she described how the emotional and psychological toll left her grappling with severe anxiety, which disrupted her ability to function.
“It was an extremely distressing time, but with a lot of support, I began to find balance and reconnected with my art,” Helen shared. “Painting became a lifeline, helping me process my emotions and regain my sense of self.”
Her works, many of which are now on display at Museum & Art Swindon in the Civic Offices on Euclid Street, offer a raw and emotional insight into her journey. The earlier pieces in her collection capture the turbulence of anxiety and despair, while later works radiate joy and vitality, marking her recovery and return to wellness.
Visitors to the Artist Takeover Day will not only have the opportunity to view Helen’s displayed works but also to explore a broader selection of her creations, ranging from smaller intimate pieces to larger, more expansive works.
Helen herself will be present from 11.30 am to 3 pm, eager to share her story and discuss the profound impact art has had on her life.
The event aims to highlight the museum’s new home while boosting its visibility and footfall. Helen is collaborating with fellow artist Tim Carroll, who will host his own takeover day on Saturday 30th November. Together, they hope to raise awareness of this cultural gem and encourage more Swindonians to explore its offerings.
Helen warmly invites all to attend, saying, “This is a chance to connect, share stories, and celebrate the power of art. I’d be delighted to meet anyone who wishes to learn more about my journey or simply enjoy the art on display.”
