However, the excitement isn’t confined to Leeds alone. Across the UK, interest is surging, and more clubs are embracing the fantastic and inclusive sport of Wheelchair Rugby League.

Here in Swindon, Tony Ellis, a dedicated figure at the St George club, is thrilled to witness the surge in enthusiasm. “We’ve effectively relaunched our operation,” he shares. The club has secured a new venue at New College on Queens Drive, featuring a perfectly sprung floor, ideal for the sport’s dynamic nature.

“Every Thursday, from 8 pm to 10 pm, the sports hall comes alive with coaching and training sessions, open to everyone. According to Ellis, inclusivity is a core value – age, race, ability level, or experience, everyone is welcome. Men, women, boys, and girls, regardless of whether they use a wheelchair or not, can partake in this wonderful game.

Specially adapted chairs are provided, ensuring accessibility for all. Ellis, deeply involved in the sport nationally and internationally within the England set-up, offers first-class coaching.

The first session is absolutely free for newcomers, and subsequent sessions are priced at just £5 each. Ellis emphasises that support is available for those in financial need, ensuring that everyone can be a part of this thrilling experience.
