The Resounding Return of Wheelchair Rugby League in Swindon!

The distinctive sounds of Wheelchair Rugby League echoed through Swindon on Thursday, 9th November, as Swindon St George orchestrated a triumphant return to the arena.

Coach Tony Ellis, with enthusiasm in his voice, declared the open evening a monumental success, attributing it to the surging popularity of this unique form of Rugby League. The event, held at the New College Sports Hall off Queen’s Drive, witnessed a remarkable turnout, featuring both seasoned players and intrigued newcomers, some of whom were introduced to the sport for the first time.

Coach Tony Ellis, the driving force behind the resurgence, showcased his coaching prowess by guiding both seasoned players and novices through the nuances of Wheelchair Rugby League.

The evening commenced with an introduction to the format and rules, followed by basic drills designed to familiarise newcomers with the sport’s demands. Within a mere two hours, Ellis seamlessly transitioned the participants from rookies to players, organising a 15-minute session under actual playing conditions. This unique approach allowed individuals, previously unfamiliar with the game, to experience and relish the thrill of Wheelchair Rugby League.

The momentum generated on that successful evening will carry forward, with 2-hour sessions set to resume on 23rd November at 8 pm, and every Thursday thereafter.

Swindon St George extends a warm welcome to individuals of all ages and abilities, whether able-bodied or regular wheelchair users. The first try-out visit is offered absolutely free, encouraging everyone to embrace the exhilaration of Wheelchair Rugby League.
