The Croft Primary School is celebrating a remarkable season after its football team completed an unprecedented hat-trick of trophies, writing a new chapter in the school’s sporting history.
The Swindon primary school side, made up mainly of Year 6 pupils alongside several talented Year 5 players, swept aside the competition to win the Swindon Primary Schools Football Association South League, finishing the entire campaign unbeaten.
That success earned the team a place in the Swindon Cup, where they continued their outstanding form to lift a second piece of silverware.
The season was not over there. As South League champions, The Croft received an invitation to compete in the prestigious Centenary Cup, a competition bringing together league winners from across the area. Facing strong opposition from Moredon, Tregoze, Tadpole Farm and Grange, the young side once again rose to the occasion, completing a clean sweep by lifting a third trophy.
The achievement marks the first time The Croft Primary School has secured all three titles in a single season and is believed to be the first occasion in the history of the Swindon Primary Schools Football League that one school has completed such a treble.
Headteacher Elaine Murphy praised the players for their commitment both on and off the pitch.
She said: “We are really proud of our football team and it’s brilliant to be able to celebrate their success. It’s the first time in our history and the history of the Swindon Primary School Football League that this has happened, so it really is an amazing achievement for the children involved.
“Well done to all of those competing. The teamwork shown is so important for all children as they develop their confidence and learn to work together while also having fun!”
While the silverware will take pride of place in the school’s trophy cabinet, staff say the season has been about far more than results. The determination, teamwork and sportsmanship shown throughout the campaign have given pupils memories to last a lifetime and set a new benchmark for future Croft teams to aim for.
