Swindon’s Jazz Carlin claims 400m freestyle silver with a personal best at Rio 2016 Olympics.
Carlin was making her debut at the Olympics after sickness stopped her from competing at London 2012 and afer claiming silver in the 400m freestyle said she was inspired by Adam Peaty.
She said: ‘I was sat watching Adam break the world record and win the gold and that was special, I had goosebumps before I swam. I tried to stay calm before the race, but I am gobsmacked.’
‘I honestly can’t believe it. I am on the edge of tears, it hasn’t really sunk in at all.
‘I knew it would be a tough race and obviously Katie raced for the world record and I was just trying to stick to her and have a great race.
American Katie Ledecky won gold in a world record of 3:56.46.
Carlin was second, clocking 4:01.23 whilst Leah Smith took bronze in 4:01.92.
