Swindon St George Rugby League Club is celebrating a significant milestone with the purchase of a new minibus, thanks to generous sponsorship and dedicated fundraising efforts.
The minibus, affectionately named ‘Rodney’ in honour of club secretary Rod Evans, was unveiled at a launch event and naming ceremony held on Saturday at Greenbridge Road.
Rod Evans, who has been instrumental in securing the necessary funds through personal loans and donations, received heartfelt recognition for his contributions. Evans, along with committee member Sven Grove and others, worked tirelessly to ensure the purchase and all associated administration were successfully completed.
Club chairman Warren Huggins expressed his delight, stating, “This is a big step forward for us, and another building block in the development of our club.”
Huggins highlighted the minibus’s importance, noting its availability for all sections of St George, including the men’s open age, juniors, masters, and the wheelchair RL side.
Huggins extended gratitude to all sponsors, particularly Powerwash Contractors, Wiltshire Windows, Allin1 Sports, and the Queens Tap, whose support has been crucial in the club’s growth.
