Swindon St George Rugby League Club is celebrating after two of its Masters RL squad members have been selected to represent their respective countries in upcoming international matches. Warren Huggins, the club’s chairman and regular player in the Masters team, has been called up to the England squad. He will make his international debut in the Tri-Nations tournament, set to take place in Belfast on 16 November. Huggins will face none other than his clubmate, Alun Griffiths, who has been named captain of the Wales team.
Huggins expressed his excitement about the unexpected honour: “This has come out of the blue – totally unexpected but hugely humbling.” Meanwhile, Griffiths is equally thrilled, saying, “I’m especially looking forward to playing alongside such a top-quality squad of players as skipper again.”
The selection of both players is a proud moment for Swindon St George, showcasing the high level of talent within the club. While the two teammates have great respect for each other, fans can expect fierce competition when they line up on opposite sides for their respective nations.
The Tri-Nations tournament is an important fixture in the Masters RL calendar, and the rivalry between England and Wales is always highly anticipated. For Swindon St George, it will be a unique occasion to witness two of their own going head-to-head on the international stage.
