Swindon Shock had the honour on playing at the National Championship Finals at Worcester Arena this past weekend after finishing second in the National League.
After two epic matches against some quality opposition, the Shock were left Shocked after coming away in first place bringing home the gold medals they thoroughly deserved.
On the opening day of the tournament Swindon Shock were pitted against North Wales Knights
Swindon Shock stormed to a 16-8 first quarter lead but after a slower start to the second quarter the Welsh team closed the lead to just five points going in at the half way point 29-24.
Continuing to fight back the Knights continued to battle back, eventually taking the lead into the last quarter 44-46.
In a nail biting last quarter which saw both teams matching each other point for point, Swindon hit back, the game ends level at 64-64 and overtime is needed to separate the two teams.
Swindon Shock came out as they did in the first period and dominated their opponents in a thrilling overtime secure a 77-64 win and a spot in the Division 2 Final against the Warwickshire Bears.
The Warwickshire Bears found Swindon Shock in the same quarter one mindframe as the Knights did before them and by the end of the first quarter found themselves behind 20-11.
Much like the previous game the opposition fought back and found themselves to within two points of their opponents. Swindon Shock ahead by just 34-32 at half time.
The battle continued into the third quarter, but the Shock were able to raise their game extending their lead to five points 47-42.
Just a few minutes away from picking up gold in the National Finals, the last quarter was always going to be tense. Warwickshire Bears completing the comeback with just four minutes remaining on the clock levelling the game on 53 points apiece.
Continuing to trade baskets, someone had to give in, or was this going to be another overtime game?
Showing great composure the Swindon team eventually edged their way to victory without the need for overtime and went away 60-57 winners, proudly wearing their gold medals.
