Professional Twenty20 Cricket Match in Swindon to Raise Funds for Hospice and Polio Eradication Campaign

Cricket supporters are being invited to enjoy an evening of professional Twenty20 action in Swindon while helping to raise money for two important charitable causes.

A Gloucestershire XI will take on a Hampshire XI at Swindon Cricket Club’s County Ground on Tuesday, 23 June, in a match organised to support fundraising for Prospect Hospice and Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign.

The fixture is expected to bring a taste of professional county cricket to the town and offers local sports fans the opportunity to watch high-quality Twenty20 cricket close to home.

Play is scheduled to begin at 5pm, with admission free for spectators.

While entry to the match will not be charged, visitors will be encouraged to support fundraising activities taking place during the event. Proceeds raised will go towards Prospect Hospice, which provides specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Swindon, Marlborough and north-east Wiltshire, and the End Polio Now campaign, a global initiative working to eradicate polio worldwide.

The fundraising effort is being led by Swindon Rotary, which regularly organises community events and charitable initiatives supporting both local and international causes.

Rotary clubs around the world have played a significant role in the long-running campaign to eliminate polio, contributing funding, volunteers and advocacy efforts over several decades. Cases of the disease have fallen dramatically worldwide as a result of international vaccination programmes, although work continues to achieve complete eradication.

The event also provides an opportunity to support Prospect Hospice, one of the region’s best-known charities, which relies heavily on donations and community fundraising to continue providing its services.

Organisers hope the combination of professional cricket and charitable fundraising will attract a strong crowd to the County Ground.

Twenty20 cricket has become one of the sport’s most popular formats thanks to its fast-paced nature, with matches typically completed in a single evening and designed to appeal to both dedicated supporters and newcomers to the game.

The fixture is expected to feature talented players from both counties and provide entertaining action throughout the evening.

Swindon Rotary representatives have encouraged residents to attend, enjoy the cricket and support the fundraising activities taking place alongside the match.

With free admission and two worthwhile causes benefiting from the event, organisers hope the match will prove a successful evening for players, spectators and charities alike.
