Junior Rugby League Players Celebrate at Swindon St George’s End-of-Season Funday

Swindon St George Rugby League Club was a hive of activity last weekend as the Dragons celebrated a successful year for their junior section with a grand end-of-season funday. The event was a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of the club’s young players and coaching staff throughout 2024.

Held at the Swindon Rugby Union Club’s base, the fun-filled day catered to around seventy youngsters, aged from five to fifteen, who have been embracing the thrills of rugby league.

The festivities included a variety of attractions, ensuring that both players and their families enjoyed a memorable day. Highlights included a bouncy castle, an assault course, a barbeque, and even some exciting axe-throwing.

Adding an extra splash of excitement, club sponsors Powerwash Contractors set up a unique shooting gallery where participants could test their aim with a high-powered water jet gun. The combination of these activities provided a perfect backdrop for the day’s main event—the annual awards ceremony.

During the ceremony, young players from every age group were recognised for their achievements with medals and certificates. St George’s chairman, Warren Huggins, expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating, “I’d like to think that everyone present had a brilliant time, which they all thoroughly deserved. The future of Rugby League looks pretty safe in Swindon, with a clear pathway to our open-age side, as evidenced by the rise of Tyler Lehman through all the junior age groups, culminating in his debut in our first thirteen this season.”
