Dragons Roll Into 2025: Swindon Wheelchair Rugby League Set for Exciting Season

Swindon’s very own Dragons are gearing up for an exciting new chapter as they prepare for their first full season of competitive action in the Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL). Coach Tony Ellis has confirmed that the club will be entering the super competitive WRL Wheelchair Invitation League, bringing an action-packed year to their New College venue.

The Dragons will face off against teams such as Cardiff Blue Dragons, North Wales Crusaders, and Torfaen Tigers, marking a new milestone for the club. Ellis is thrilled about this upcoming season and says that the hard work is ramping up. “We’re putting everything in place, particularly focusing on player recruitment, support staff, and sponsors,” he commented. “A full fixture list will be released shortly, and preparations are in full swing.”

Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL) is a unique and inclusive sport open to individuals of all ages, genders, and abilities, including both wheelchair users and non-users. The game closely mirrors the running version of Rugby League, with the same rules applied, and a proper rugby ball is used. No forward passes are allowed, maintaining the integrity of the traditional game.
