World Book Day is a celebration of books and reading that takes place every year on April 23rd however, in the UK, World Book Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of March.
The UK celebrates the day in March partly because the April date clashes with the Easter holidays.
The event was first established by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1995, and since then, it has been observed in over 100 countries around the world.
The purpose of World Book Day is to promote the love of reading and to encourage people, especially children, to discover the joys of books. It is also a celebration of authors, illustrators, and the various cultures and traditions that are reflected in literature.
Many schools and libraries organise special events and activities to promote reading, such as book fairs, author visits, and reading challenges.
In addition to promoting reading, World Book Day also raises awareness about issues related to copyright and access to books, as well as the importance of supporting the publishing industry and protecting intellectual property.
