The forthcoming facility will boast an impressive array of facilities including a full-size floodlit 3G pitch, enclosed with durable metal fencing, making it ideal for multi-team training sessions, as well as junior and senior matches.

In addition to the 3G pitch, the hub will feature a regional standard cycling closed road circuit spanning 1km. With multiple internal loops and cross-over points, the circuit enables simultaneous use by three distinct groups.

Furthermore, the Moredon Sporting Hub will offer grass sports pitches, including three football pitches and two cricket pitches. The development will also feature a new pavilion, complete with upgraded changing areas, a welcoming café, and a reception area.

Funding for the Moredon Sporting Hub has been secured from several notable sources, including the Premier League, The FA, the Football Foundation (backed by the government), and Sport England. Their collective support reflects the significance of this project in promoting active lifestyles and community engagement.

Councillor Jim Grant, the Cabinet Member for Communities and Joint Working at Swindon Borough Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This is a fantastic project for Moredon and Swindon as a whole, and I’m very excited that work has now begun. We want this new location to be a place where communities can come together and people can learn new sports or develop skills they already have.”

Councillor Grant further emphasized the potential impact of the Moredon Sporting Hub, noting, “Not only will it be a big draw locally, but I hope to see this become a space where people travel to from across the country.”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.

“This grant award to Swindon Borough Council towards developing a new multi-sport community hub is fantastic news for the local community and will help give more people access to a great place to play.”
