Woman fined for driving 100 miles for a McDonalds

How far would you go for a Big Mac?

A woman in her 30s, was issued a fixed penalty notice by police after she said was getting a McDonald’s with her sister. The problem was she drove a 100-mile trip, Lincolnshire to Scarborough, through three counties to do so, not an essential journey by any stretch of the imagination.

North Yorkshire Police took to social media to highlight the non-essential journey and to remind people to ‘Stay Home and Stay Safe’: “Loads of us love a Big Mac and fries, but most of us wouldn’t dream of driving 100 miles during lockdown to get one.

“Driving through three counties to get a burger is not classed as essential travel. And it’s unlikely she was ‘lovin’ it’ when she received a fixed penalty notice from North Yorkshire Police.

“Most people in North Yorkshire are trying really hard to stop the spread of Covid in our communities and protect the most vulnerable.

“When this pandemic is over, it’ll be fantastic to be able to go where we want, when we want.

“But in the meantime, thank you to everyone who continues to #StayHomeStayLocalStaySafe”
