A woman is in custody in Swindon after officers were called to a report of a suspected theft at a supermarket.
At approximately 10.30am, officers were called to Waitrose in Mill Lane following a report that a woman had arrived at the shop in an Audi, selected a large number of goods inside the store and then made off without making any attempt to pay.
The woman had left the Audi at the scene and headed towards Wroughton before attempting to flee as a passenger in a Citroen Saxo driven by someone who is known to her.
Local officers, assisted by a dog handler, attended and a search was conducted.
They located local woman in her 40s who was arrested on suspicion of theft, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without third party insurance.
The Citroen Saxo was seized, and the driver – a woman in her 40s – was reported for driving without third party insurance.
PC Luke Hobbs said: “This was a great team effort from all involved in quickly locating and arresting this individual.
“We have also seized approximately £200 worth of suspected stolen goods from Waitrose.”
The woman is currently in custody in Gablecross for further questioning.
