Wiltshire’s Key Workers Given a Boost Towards Home Ownership

As Key Worker Day approaches on Saturday 5th July, there is welcome news for Wiltshire’s essential workers, with Barratt David Wilson Homes South West renewing its commitment to help those in vital roles get on the property ladder.

Through the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme, public sector workers including NHS staff, teachers, emergency service personnel, and members of the armed forces can receive significant financial support towards buying a new home. The initiative offers a contribution of £1,000 for every £20,000 of a property’s price, up to a maximum of £15,000 – making a real difference for those who do so much for our communities.

One recent beneficiary, Ella Oakey, a specialist continence nurse, shared how the scheme has transformed her and her partner’s plans. “This scheme has allowed my partner and me to buy a house much sooner than we expected,” said Ella. “It meant we could use our savings for extras and furnishings. We’re extremely grateful for the support – it has made such a difference, and without it, I’m not sure when we would have been able to buy.”

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “We recognise the invaluable contribution key workers make every day in our communities, especially here in Wiltshire. This scheme is our way of saying thank you and making it easier for them to take their next step on the property ladder.”

The scheme is open to a wide range of professions including NHS workers, teachers, police officers, firefighters, members of the armed forces, local authority staff, probation officers, prison staff, RNLI crews, foster carers and many more.

In Wiltshire, the Wichelstowe development – a partnership between Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and Swindon Borough Council – continues to take shape, promising a thriving community with new homes, schools, community amenities and green spaces. Barratt David Wilson Homes South West is also active at Buckley Gardens in Melksham and will soon launch Honeymans Helm near Highworth town centre.

For key workers dreaming of owning a home, this scheme could prove a crucial lifeline, helping those who give so much to the community secure a brighter future.
