Wiltshire’s families in need receive festive boost

A charitable organisation handed out advent calendars to hundreds of children in Wiltshire after receiving funding from a local housebuilder.

Fighting Hunger with Food Waste collects goods from local supermarkets that can no longer be sold which are then distributed to individuals, families, foodbanks, schools and any other organisation who feels they could benefit from an extra hand with food in the local area.

Commenting on Barratt David Wilson Homes’ £600 donation, Shona Tomlinson, operational lead at Fighting Hunger with Food Waste, said: “Help for community groups like ours, which is solely reliant on donations is invaluable and I’d like to give a huge thanks to Barratt David Wilson Homes for generously donating the money we needed to buy advent calendars for the children we currently support.

“Thanks to Barratt David Wilson Homes, we’ve been able to make Christmas better for so many children.”

Funding for the advent calendars follows Barratt David Wilson Homes’ recent donation of baby essentials including nappies, wipes, cream and formula to Fighting Hunger with Food Waste for the area’s most in-need families.

Jimmy Gatica, assistant site manager at David Wilson Homes’ Hunters Wood development in Melksham coordinated the donations and called on sub-contractors and the customer care and sales teams at Barratt David Wilson Homes to donate much-needed items, including baby must-haves followed by funding for the advent calendars. He added: “Due to the cost of living crisis, families in need may not be able to afford things that aren’t considered a necessity. We didn’t want any child to go without an advent calendar which is why we stepped in with a donation. It was a pleasure to help out.”
