Officers and staff at Wiltshire Police have been doing their bit to help those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic by donating five boxes of supplies to food banks.
Over the past six weeks various teams across the Force have organised collections in police stations across the county.
So far five boxes of food and Easter Eggs have been donated to food banks in Devizes, Trowbridge, Salisbury and Amesbury.
Stephen Bird, who works in the Crime and Communication Centre at Wiltshire Police HQ in Devizes, has been the driving force behind the effort and said he had been overwhelmed by how generous everyone had been.
He said: “This might seem like a small effort when the need is so great, but in these difficult times we know how important it is that we all try to help in our own small way and show that our officers and staff want to give something back to our local communities.
“We have had a positive response from the food banks, so we know these donations are making a real difference.”
Meanwhile, detectives based at Melksham CID have also been doing their bit to help others.
After receiving a donation of food from a nearby business, they distributed the cooked goods to various emergency services, before taking the remaining items to the local food bank.
Detective Superintendent Chris Hanson said: “I’m so proud of my colleagues for wanting to help those in need. This demonstrates our key values and commitment to provide a kind and compassionate service and support those who really need help.
“We will continue to collect and distribute items to food banks and we encourage everyone across our communities to think about families who are really struggling at this difficult time and donate if you can.”
