Wiltshire housebuilders named among world’s most sustainable companies

Two housebuilders with developments across Wiltshire have been recognised on a global stage after being named among TIME magazine’s World’s 500 Most Sustainable Companies for 2025.

Barratt Homes Bristol and David Wilson Redrow South West – who are both active in major projects such as Swindon’s Wichelstowe development – have been highlighted for their industry-leading approach to sustainability. The recognition places them in a small group of just 32 UK businesses to feature on the international list.

Richard Lawson, sales director at Barratt Homes Bristol, said:

“We are immensely proud that our work here in Wiltshire contributes to a national legacy of building not only high-quality homes, but a more sustainable future. This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams to reduce our impact, innovate and create communities that last.”

Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Redrow South West, added:

“Being recognised in TIME’s global sustainability ranking is a testament to the values we put into practice every day on our developments across Wiltshire. Our focus is not just on building homes, but creating thriving communities where people and nature can flourish together.”

Since merging in 2024, Barratt Redrow has stepped up its efforts in green innovation, from installing over 1,200 air source heat pumps to testing future-proofed homes at the University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0 facility. According to industry data from the HBF, homes built by the company are now up to 65% more energy-efficient than older properties.

The company is also working hard to cut carbon emissions on construction sites, reduce waste, and integrate nature into new neighbourhoods through its decade-long partnership with the RSPB.

David Thomas, CEO of Barratt Redrow, said the recognition was a “powerful motivation” for the company to keep driving progress:

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do – from cutting carbon emissions to creating communities that thrive for generations. Being included on this global list is both an honour and a challenge to keep pushing forward.”

As well as environmental progress, Barratt Redrow contributes significantly to the UK economy, supporting almost 43,000 jobs and investing more than £500 million in local communities last year alone.

Locally, the Wichelstowe development in Swindon – delivered in partnership with Swindon Borough Council – is one of the region’s flagship schemes. Alongside new homes, it is set to bring schools, green spaces and community facilities. The company is also building at Buckley Gardens in Melksham.

The recognition from TIME confirms Barratt Redrow’s position as one of the world’s most forward-thinking housebuilders, and underlines Wiltshire’s role in a changing industry.
