Who can leave the house and go to work in UK lockdown?

Yesterday evening Boris Johnson put restrictions on who can leave their homes to travel to work during the UK lockdown, only those “travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.”

Here’s the full list of key workers who can travel if it’s absolutely essential for them to travel…

Health and social care

This includes all frontline health and social care staff including doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers.

It also includes those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributors of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.

Education and childcare

Nursery, teaching staff and social workers.

Key public services

Those essential to the running of the justice system, religious staff, charities and workers delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting.

Local and national government

This only includes those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response or delivering essential public services such as the payment of benefits.

Food and other necessary goods

Those involved in the production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery of food.

Public safety and national security

Police, support staff, Ministry of Defence civilian staff and armed forces personnel, fire and rescue staff, and those responsible for border security, prisons and probation.

Transport

Those who will keep air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the Covid-19 response.

Utilities, communication and financial services

Staff that are required to keep oil, gas, electricity, water and sewerage operations running. Staff in the civil nuclear, chemical and telecommunications sectors. Those in postal services and those working to provide essential financial services.

  1. Are the banks allowed to charge overdraft fees at this time ,with the Coronavirus taking things out of our control . People out of work with no pay , due to the government putting the country on lockdown. What are we supposed to do with out money to pay our bills ?

  2. This is not true because companies that are non essential are still going into work , my son works for a industrial company that is definitely not essential his wife is expecting a child she self isolates then he comes home when he been mixing with about 20 others

  3. I’m getting comments a lot about why am I working as I’m only a roofer and not essential but as a self employed person the government isn’t giving me any financial support so I can stay home
    It seems to me that self employed are 2nd class citizens
