Where had coronavirus positive people visited prior to their test results

A study carried out by Public Health England using NHS Test and Trace data has revealed the locations people had visited prior to testing positive for coronavirus.

The researchers analysed hundreds of thousands of cases involving coronavirus infections by retracing the steps of 128,808 people who tested positive between November 9th and 15th and came up with the figures below after analysing 9,789 common locations.

Supermarkets lead the way in locations visited with secondary schools and primary schools coming in second and third on the list.

Hospitals and care homes came next in the list.

It is no surprise that restaurants and pubs came out between 1-2% as for the large part these locations are closed, unless you are picking up an order.

The Common Exposure Reports use NHS Test and Trace enhanced contact tracing data to identify locations or activities reported by two or more cases.

Once a case enters the system, enhanced contact tracing information is collected on household, workplace, education and activities in the seven to two days before symptom onset.

The PHE warns that “common exposures identified this way are not always indicative of epidemiological linkage between the cases and require further investigation.”
