A £150 handout from the government was announced earlier this year, known as the Energy Bills Rebate, to help households with rising energy costs.
About 20 million homes are to benefit from the £9.1billion scheme with households who fall into tax bands A to D qualifying for the support.
The money is intended to help families cope with the cost of living crisis after the energy price cap was axed on April 1st.
There is no need to apply for the rebate. If you are entitled you will receive the payment direct from the local authority.
Swindon Borough Council have announced the following details around when people can expect to receive the payment:
- If you paid your Council Tax by Direct Debit on either 1st April, 5th April or 15th April, the council are aiming to pay the £150 into your bank account at the end of April
- If you paid your Council Tax by Direct Debit on either 21st April or will pay on 27th April, or you’ve recently set up a new Direct Debit, your payment will be made into your bank account by 16th May
- If you don’t pay by Direct Debit but are eligible for the scheme, the council plan to write to you in May with details of how to get your payment. They will not phone you for your bank details.
