HIV is an issue that can affect heterosexual and LGBTQ communities alike, and although the South West as a whole has one of the lowest HIV rates nationally, in 2020 Swindon had a slightly higher than national average infection rate.
It is also being reported that the current testing rates in Swindon and the South West are falling year on-year, so risks factors exist.
Following on from the recent National HIV Testing Week, Sexual Health leads – a collection of NHS trusts in South West England – are anonymously gathering peoples’ views toward HIV prevention and and preventative HIV drugs in Swindon as well as elsewhere in the region.
The anonymous survey closes on 14th March and is important for effectively delivering local health services across all age ranges and demographics, as well as raising awareness of PrEP, a HIV prevention drug that is nearly 100% effective in stopping HIV being contracted.
The survey takes five minutes to complete and is available here.
