Since lockdown restrictions were introduced, there has been a strict two metre distancing expectation when you’re out and about.
Well come July 4th that is going to change to the new ‘One Metre Plus’, a move that will allow more businesses to open their doors and bring a sense of normality back to the country.
The new rule applies to individuals from different households, so if you don’t live with somebody, you will still be required to keep one metre away from each other – yes unfortunately this still means no hugging for families reuniting.
What does the new rule mean?
The new distancing measure means people can be one metre away from people they don’t live with, ‘if they make additional efforts to protect themselves’.
The additional efforts referred to include, avoiding face-to-face seating, wearing a face covering and ensuring hands are washed and sanitised.
Where possible people are still being asked to keep a two metre distance from those they do not live with.
Pubs and restaurants that will reopen on July 4th will be asked to reduce the number of people inside, improve ventilation, install protective screens and additional hand sanitiser stations.
Hair salons and barbers are being asked to wear full-face visors and also not be as talkative as usual and where possible hold a conversation side by side.
