Imagine having to figure out what to do with 125 pallets of abandoned dried pasta.
This was the problem confronting SW Group Logistics Director Christian Knox at his company’s warehouse in Cheney Manor, Swindon.
After storing 125 pallets of dry pasta, enough to fill six articulated lorries, their customer failed to pay the invoice for storage and the subsequent request to remove the stock.
Christian said: “We needed to create space in our warehouse and it was clear the customer had no intention of paying their storage bill for the vast amount of pasta.
“The notion of sending it to landfill crossed my mind but that just didn’t sit well with me at all.
After sharing the ‘pasta problem’ with the chair of Swindon Food Collective, Helen Gerrish, SW Group Logistics were introduced to Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership and the problem was solved.
Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership deliver huge amounts of aid to Ukraine with over 600 tonnes of aid being delivered in the past six months.
The following day the first delivery of pasta was made to The Aid Partnership’s unit near Swindon railway station where the bulk of it will be transported to Ukraine with some being used for local projects including ‘The Table’ – a weekly Bring and Share dinner for Ukrainians arriving in Swindon and their host families at Pattern Church in Rodbourne.
Christian added “ It was the perfect solution to a difficult business problem and SW Group Logistics are proud and delighted to be putting something back into the community.
“I wish The Swindon Food Collective and The Swindon Humanitarian Partnership the very best with their important work “
