Waste and recycling – last chance to have your say

There’s still time to have your say on how Swindon Borough Council manage Swindon’s waste and increase recycling, as the Council looks to develop a ten year Waste Strategy. So far over 2,900 residents have completed the online survey which closes at midnight today (Friday 19 October).

Their dedicated Sustainable Swindon website sets out the issues that we need to consider in deciding how to sustainably manage Swindon’s waste, also driving up our recycling rates to meet Government targets.

The site sets out a number of potential short-term options that we are seeking your views on. One of the options that has sparked particular interest is around temporarily suspending the collection of plastics for recycling. The Sustainable Swindon website explains the background on why we are considering this.

Swindon has one of the few specialist plants in the UK that can convert household waste into a solid fuel used by industry across Europe to displace raw fossil fuels. Watch the video below to find out how this work.
