The manager of the Pick Your Own that won the Farm Retail Association’s 2022 best PYO in the country award is urging people not to leave it too late to buy their Christmas trees this year.
John Meadon, who manages Lotmead PYO in Wanborough, just off the A419, says that in the busy lead-up to Christmas many people understandably leave picking up a tree until a few days before the 25th.
“In days gone by, you could be pretty sure of still having a choice of trees just before Christmas, but we know from experience that that’s no longer the case,” said John.
“Last year, we sold the last of our trees the weekend before Christmas, and there were some very disappointed people who came too late.
“The last thing you want to do is tell someone that you don’t have any trees left – to many families the real tree in the living room is as important as their turkey and Christmas pudding.”
Lotmead PYO still has plenty of Nordmann, Spruce and Fraser Christmas trees, but John expects that the weekend of the 17th and 18th will see most of them bought.
“People do love choosing their trees in a natural rural setting, and the fact that we will trim the bases and drill trees that are going onto stands – or sell them complete with stands – makes it easy to put them up at home,” said John.
Lotmead PYO is open from 9.30am to 5pm every day until the trees are sold. Details, including prices, are at www.lotmead.co.uk .
