Walcot Councillors Abdul Amin, Emma Bushell and Steve Allsopp are pleased to announce that work on the 20 MPH zone for Walcot West has been completed.
The work involved the installation of new 20mph signs on existing lamp posts and a few additional posts where necessary. It has taken longer than hoped for the new speed limit to be introduced and there were also delays in the contractor inserting all of the signage, however this has now been completed.
Walcot Councillor, Emma Bushell, said:
“It is great news that the 20mph limit has been introduced in Walcot West. The idea of a 20 MPH Zone was first proposed by Cllr Steve Allsopp at a public meeting in April 2016. The scheme received widespread support in a consultation of residents carried out in the autumn. We are hopeful the scheme will change the behaviour of drivers in the area and make Walcot West’s roads safer for the community.
We would like to thank residents for their patience while the work was carried out. This took longer than we were all hoping and expecting. Staff shortages at both the council and the contractor led to the start being postponed and further delays as the work was carried out.”
If you would like more information or to discuss this matter further please contact your local councillors.”
