Volunteers Needed for Rewarding Roles at Prospect Hospice

As the demand for their crucial services continues to grow, the hospice is actively seeking more volunteers to contribute to various roles.

With approximately 40 volunteer positions available, individuals can play a pivotal role in supporting patient and family care, assisting in charity shops, driving patients to appointments, aiding the fundraising team in generating essential funds, and maintaining the hospice gardens.

Your Holiday Starts Now

While many people set New Year resolutions that often wane within a few weeks, why not embark on something that truly makes a difference and enhances the quality of life for those facing terminal illnesses?

Volunteering opportunities range from working in charity shops, participating in events, or directly contributing to hospice operations. The assistance provided by volunteers is invaluable and significantly impacts patients and their families.

Katie Brammer, a dedicated volunteer at Prospect Hospice’s Taw Hill shop, shares her experience: “I wanted to give back my time for the amazing help and support they gave my husband and our family when he was at end-of-life care.

“I looked forward to going into the shop every day and helping the community. I loved all the different parts of a role as a volunteer so much and began taking on new challenges in the shop using my own skills to help raise vital funds for the hospice. When a new store was opening, I applied for the role of assistant manager as I believed I could really help make a difference. With perseverance and determination, I am now the shop manager and I love my job and still look forward to going in every day.”

Su Starkey, Head of Volunteering, Learning, and Inclusion at Prospect Hospice, emphasises the value of volunteers, contributing around £1 million annually to the hospice. Starkey encourages those interested to join the team, acquire new skills, build friendships, enhance their CV, and directly contribute to the quality of patient care.
