UK vaccinations below average needed to hit February target

The number of vaccines administered daily in the UK has dropped for three straight days, casting doubts on whether the mid-February target to vaccinate the top four priority groups is still possible.

Government data up to Tuesday shows of the 7.6 million given in the UK so far, 7.1 million were first doses.

With the adverse weather causing some vaccination centres to close, 311,060 first doses were given on Tuesday, 279,757 on Monday and 220,249 on Sunday – the seven-day rolling average of first doses given in the UK is now 364,950.

Last week a record 491,970 first jabs were administered on Saturday, 478,248 on Friday and 409,855 on Thursday.

Based on the latest figures, an average of 412,401 first doses of vaccine would be needed each day for the next three weeks in order to meet the target of 15 million first doses to the four highest priority groups by February 15th.
