The Lady Vanishes is a stage adaptation by Anthony Lampard of the 1938 Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name.
Set during pre-war we join our cast about to board a train from Austria back to Blighty.
A young socialite, Iris Henderson (Scarlett Archer) befriends a Lady by the name of Miss Froy (played by Gwen Taylor) who vanishes on the moving train. When no one remembers seeing her, Iris teams up with a young chap called Max – Maximilian to those who have the time – (Nicholas Audsley) to solve the mystery of the vanished lady.
A Fabulous cast brings to life this jolly jaunt filled with mystery and intrigue.
The fixed set was very impressive and the moving of scene and lighting lending to the illusion of a moving train, teamed with the stage presence of the cast, all made it very enjoyable indeed.
Lots of staring out of the train windows (into the audience) and an exceptional job by Rosie Thomson, who plays Margaret, for constantly jostling away as if moving on the train!
The double act characters Charters (Denis Lill) and Caldicott (Ben Nealon) were such a hoot!
If you fancy a blooming good mystery, with good humour then this is the play to see!
