Puppets4Peas is a freshly sprouted family theatre company set up by the respected director, performer and puppeteer, Marc Parrett. Marc has adapted a sizeable list of children’s theatre favourites over the years including The Little Red Hen, The Enormous Turnip and 3 Little Pigs. This year, he made his Sydney Opera House debut, singing and dancing in the nursery school favourite, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Marc is a sought-after puppet maker too and in 2017 he conjured up a humungous flying Aslan puppet, and an army of ghoulish monsters for Leeds Playhouse’s production of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The Elves and the Shoemaker, which will premiere at Shoebox, is set to be a far more diminutive and intimate venture.
“I thought I might call my new company Puppets for Peace, as I have a strong desire right now to make work that was open, friendly and inclusive. Then I discovered there was already a theatre company with that name. Rather than give up on the idea I changed the word Peace into Peas and found a moniker that perfectly represents the happy/bonkers/welcoming quality of my work!” said Marc
Marc was last seen at the Shoebox, directing Bee Daws’ critically acclaimed show, The Girl who was Swallowed by a Giant for its UK premiere.
“The Shoebox is a wonderful and important venue right in the heart of Swindon. It’s the perfect space to perform theatre work of this size as the audience are never far away from the action. Who knows this time, I might even ask the audience to join in!”
The Elves and the Shoemaker is showing at the Shoebox Theatre on the 15th, 16th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December. To find out more and book tickets visit www.shoeboxtheatre.org.uk/whatson
