As we’re spending a lot more time at home at the moment we are having to come up with new ways to keep the kids entertained.
A lot of schools are sending out work too and there’s plenty of lists of home education apps for us to use.
But here are our top 5 fun activities to keep your children busy outside of their educational time.
- Egg decorating
You might be missing the annual Easter egg decorating competition at school so instead you can do your own designs at home. If you don’t mind using up some of your precious groceries then hard boil a couple and get creative.
2. Sock puppets
If you don’t already have some puppets, then get some old socks out and make your own! Whether you have some stick-on googly eyes or just some scraps of paper, your child can make their very own unique characters.
3. Build a den
Most of us can remember building a den at some point in our childhood, usually with just a table, some cushions and a sheet. You can let your child’s imagination choose what to make their den become, whether they pretend to go camping or try to keep warm inside their cosy blanket filled den.
4. Make milk bottle elephants
It’s so easy to make elephants out of your empty plastic milk bottles. All you have to do is cut the bottom off the bottle and cut arches into the back and sides to make the legs, then chop the handle so it looks like a trunk.
Then cover them with glue and stick on different coloured tissue paper and some googly eyes if you have them!
5. Colouring sheets
There are lots of free colouring sheets available for you to choose from online and you can even use ones of local landmarks as a local artist has created free Swindon colouring-in images.
If you and your children do take on any of these activities or have any other ideas for keeping children busy during the lockdown, please share some pictures of your fun with us by sending them to getintouch@theswindonian.co.uk
