Christmas Care Swindon Offers Food and Friendship Over the Festive Period

For those in Swindon facing a difficult festive season, one local charity is once again opening its doors to offer something simple but vital: food, warmth and friendly company.

Christmas Care Swindon, which has been supporting people over the festive period since 1988, will be running its annual drop-in day centre from Christmas Eve through to 29 December. Based once again at The Haven Day Centre on Queen’s Drive, the service will be open daily from 9am to 5.30pm, with a slightly earlier closing time of 3pm on the final day.

The charity provides a welcoming space for anyone experiencing homelessness, hunger or loneliness at Christmas — no referral or booking required. Volunteers will be serving a full English breakfast each morning, followed by a hot home-cooked lunch and an early evening snack. In between meals, guests can expect hot drinks, conversation and a place to sit and feel part of something at what can be a challenging time of year.

While the focus is on those most in need, the atmosphere is deliberately relaxed and inclusive. Many guests return year after year, drawn as much by the sense of connection as by the meals themselves.

As preparations continue, Christmas Care Swindon is also appealing for food donations to help keep its kitchen stocked. There is one remaining donation day this year, taking place on Sunday 21 December from 10am to 2pm at The Haven Day Centre, located next to the ambulance station.

The charity is particularly keen to receive items such as meat, cheese and fresh vegetables for hot meals, along with breakfast staples including sausages, bacon, hash browns, eggs, mushrooms and tinned tomatoes. Tinned, dried and long-life food is also welcome.

The Haven Day Centre can be found at Queen’s Drive, Swindon SN3 1AR. Anyone wishing to attend over the festive period can simply call in.
