British Army to Conduct Training Exercise on the Streets of Swindon

Swindon will soon become the focal point for a crucial British Army training exercise, as soldiers participate in a series of activities spanning from September 22nd to September 30th.

This exercise aims to rigorously evaluate the Army’s personnel and equipment in various rural and urban scenarios, simulating encounters with a fictional opposing force.

The Ministry of Defence has officially announced Swindon as the chosen location for this specialised training event. During this period, members of the public may notice the movement of military personnel and vehicles in and around Swindon and its nearby areas, particularly during nighttime hours.

The primary objective of this exercise is to challenge the Army’s capabilities, both in rural and urban environments, against a hypothetical adversary. The training is conducted by the Army’s specialist Experimentation and Trials Group (ETG) in conjunction with Defence Equipment and Support.

As part of this exercise, personnel will operate proven unmanned ground and aerial vehicles. These cutting-edge technologies will be utilised to assess and validate any new requirements for the Army’s ability to operate and engage effectively in both urban and countryside settings.

A spokesperson for the Army elaborated, stating, “The exercise is designed to test Army’s personnel and equipment in both rural and urban environments against a fictional opposing presence and is being undertaken by the Army’s specialist Experimentation and Trials Group (ETG) and Defence Equipment and Support.”
