South Swindon MP, Sir Robert Buckland, has welcomed the news that following a rigorous selection process, two schools in South Swindon have been provisionally selected for the next round of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme.
The School Rebuilding Programme is a £1.8 billion programme aimed at rebuilding or refurbish 500 schools over the next decade.
All buildings in the School Rebuilding Programme are built to the latest construction standards, designed to be net-zero in operation and more resilient to the effects of climate change.
Lawn Manor Academy and Wroughton Infant School have been ‘provisionally allocated’ a place on the programme and subject to further due diligence could see one or both of them either be rebuilt or substantially refurbished.
Schools have been prioritised if they meet one or more of a number of criteria, such as having buildings that have the potential to cause ‘significant harm’ to pupils or staff, or having buildings of a specific construction type that require replacement.
Sir Robert commented: “I am delighted that Lawn Manor Academy and Wroughton Infant School have been provisionally selected by the Government for the next round of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme.
“When it comes to funding for our schools, I will continue to fight hard to ensure that we receive our fair share here in Swindon.”
This weeks announcement of 239 rebuilding and refurbishment projects follows 161 projects previously announced between June 2020 and July 2022, bringing the total to 400.
Delivery of many of the 161 projects is already underway, bringing transformational new buildings to communities up and down the country and making a significant contribution to the Government’s levelling up agenda.
