Two people have been been sentenced after they supplied an undercover police officer with class A drugs.
Kameran Muhid, 19, of Russ Avenue, Faringdon, pleaded guilty to supplying crack cocaine and heroin and was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months.
Ryan Wheeler, 18, of Whitehead Street, Swindon, pleaded guilty to supplying crack cocaine and was given a 22 month prison sentence suspended for 24 months.
Both appeared at Swindon Crown Court yesterday and were also ordered to pay a victim surcharge each of £32 and Muhid must also carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
On May 8, 2019, Muhid supplied crack cocaine and heroin to an undercover officer in Broad Street, Swindon, after phone calls were made to a known drugs gang in the area.
In a separate incident on June 20, 2019, as part of an operation to tackle drug dealing in the town centre, Wheeler supplied the undercover officer with several wraps of cocaine. He was later arrested.
Det Insp Rab Macleod said: “We are committed to countering the threat of county lines drugs gangs and we are very alive to recognising the signs of increased drug dealing activity within an area. We are also very aware that many of these drugs gangs who are based out of county are using younger people within Swindon and Wiltshire to act as runners to deal drugs on their behalf. We continue to work closely with colleagues from police forces elsewhere in the country to target those at the top of the chain and we will continue to identify those involved within our force area in a bid to protect those most vulnerable who they are supplying with class A drugs.
“The undercover work involved in identifying both Muhid and Wheeler was done following an increase in drug dealing reported in the town centre. I hope this work provides some reassurance to local people that we will do all that we can to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs within our communities.”
